🛑 THE PROBLEM:
The Remote Health mobile application was a powerful but fragmented ecosystem used by patients and healthcare professionals for teleconsultations, biometric monitoring, messaging, alerts, educational resources, and medical records.
Despite its extensive functionality, several critical modules lacked the structure, clarity, and usability needed to support reliable remote care.
Patients faced major difficulties understanding biometric measurements recorded through different medical devices. Data was scattered, inconsistent, and often lacked essential context—such as which device produced each reading. This made it hard to validate trends, compare measurements, or identify issues. Exported data was incomplete, histories were fragmented, and visualizations did not properly reflect grouped readings.
At the same time, the InfoSalud module—where patients access educational resources assigned by clinicians—lacked basic organization. There were no categories, filters, or clear navigation paths, making it difficult for patients to find the materials they needed and for professionals to manage what they assigned.
Across both modules, the experience fell short for users with low or medium technical literacy. The platform's complexity, inconsistent flows, and lack of structure led to confusion, lower patient engagement, and inefficiencies in clinical workflows.
In short: the system was powerful, but not intuitive, and key health decisions were being made with limited clarity.
🔎 RESEARCH & FOUNDATIONS:
NTT Data’s Remote Health application is a comprehensive mobile platform supporting a wide range of patient-care interactions, including:
Telemedicine (video consultations, waiting room, screen sharing, recording)
Messaging (chat, mailbox, contact lists, forms)
Alerts & notifications
Medical forms and checklists
Biometric measurements & telemonitoring
Care team management
Digital health ID & medical records
Support services
Family profiles and emergency contacts
Educational resources (InfoSalud)
Because the platform integrates so many modules, consistency and clarity are essential—but two areas stood out as critical pain points:
1. Biometric Measurements (Biomedidas / Telemonitoring)
Issues identified:
No unified view for measurements taken across different devices
No device identification in many records
Exported reports missing key metadata
Poor grouping logic for multi-device readings
Visualizations not showing accurate or clear trends
Patients unable to understand their own health data
Professionals lacking reliable information for decision-making
2. InfoSalud (Educational Resource Catalog)
Issues identified:
No categories to organize content
Difficulty filtering and searching for resources
Inefficient workflows for professionals assigning materials
Patients unsure where to find the materials their clinician recommended
BackOffice lacked proper tools to manage catalogs
Both modules shared the same core UX problem:
complex information, presented without structure, clarity, or consistency.
The redesign aimed to bring order to this ecosystem by improving information architecture, unifying visual and functional patterns, and making the experience intuitive even for users with low technical literacy.
🚀 SOLUTION:
The goal of the redesign was to improve the clarity, structure, and usability of a complex remote-care ecosystem used daily by patients, clinicians, and healthcare administrators. The application covered a wide set of functionalities—telemedicine, biometric monitoring, device syncing, messaging, alerts, educational resources, reports, and care-team management—yet the experience felt fragmented, difficult to navigate, and inconsistent across platforms.
To address these issues, I designed a modern, simplified, and unified experience that focused on helping users understand their health information more easily, complete clinical tasks confidently, and access content and tools without friction. The redesign strengthened the platform’s information architecture, improved the visibility of key actions, and brought clarity to medical data that previously appeared scattered or incomplete.
I created a streamlined interaction model that reorganized complex workflows into intuitive steps, improved the hierarchy of information, and provided a consistent structure regardless of whether users were registering biometric readings, reviewing their historical data, joining a telehealth appointment, or accessing assigned educational materials. The new experience was built with accessibility and low-literacy users in mind, ensuring that even patients with minimal technical skills could successfully navigate the system and understand their health status.
The redesign also established a more scalable foundation for the future of the platform, supporting new devices, new resource types, and the expansion of care-team features without compromising usability.
🔁 USER FLOWS (MOBILE & DESKTOP)

📱MOBILE APP – NATIVE EXPERIENCE
The native mobile app was redesigned to support a clean, modern, and patient-friendly experience optimized for everyday clinical tasks.
Key improvements included:
A simplified navigation structure that grouped related actions logically
Clear, readable cards summarizing health metrics and assigned resources
Improved visibility of alerts, notifications, and upcoming clinical tasks
A reorganized measurement flow for capturing and syncing health data
Accessible visual cues and labels designed for low-literacy users
A calmer medical visual style that increased trust and reduced cognitive load
Mobile-optimized layouts for charts, histories, and device-synced data
The result was a mobile experience that patients could use independently, comfortably, and confidently in their day-to-day health monitoring.
💻 DESKTOP / WEB APP – PROFESSIONAL & ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE
The web version was redesigned to support clinicians and administrators who need greater visibility, more detailed information, and efficient workflows.
Key improvements included:
A structured layout that prioritized clarity and task completion
A unified dashboard showing patient status, measurements, documents, and assigned materials
Consolidated histories and more accurate clinical indicators
Improved tools for assigning educational content to patients
BackOffice capabilities allowing administrators to create and manage categories, resources, and device data
More consistent design language aligned with the mobile experience
The redesign elevated the web platform into a reliable, professional tool that enabled clinicians to work faster, understand patient data more accurately, and manage health content with ease.
⚠️ CHALLENGE:
The main challenge was simplifying a complex healthcare experience used by both patients with low technical literacy and clinicians who required accuracy and efficiency. Unifying biometric data from multiple devices, restructuring scattered medical information, and creating a clear, accessible interface—across both mobile and web—required careful balance between usability, medical requirements, and system scalability.
📄 SUMMARY:
This project reimagined the Remote Health platform into a unified, patient-friendly and clinician-efficient experience. By improving information architecture, reorganizing biometric data, and modernizing the mobile and web interfaces, the redesign delivered a clearer, more intuitive ecosystem that supports everyday health management and clinical workflows.
🚀 Impact
The redesigned platform improved patient confidence, reduced confusion, and made key health information easier to navigate. For clinicians, it streamlined workflows and strengthened decision-making by presenting clearer, more reliable data. Overall, the new experience increased usability, accessibility, and scalability—positioning the platform for future growth in digital healthcare.
